Before you start to write a press release there are a number of factors you need to consider. What I’m going to teach you with this article is how to get started using press releases that will publicise your online business and/or your affiliate products to maximise profitability.
A number of points that need to be considered before even starting to put together your press release are:
- Do not be intimidated, they are very easy to write and will often give you amazing results.
- Who will want to visit your site and what are they looking for when they do? – try and put yourself in their shoes
- Think about their problem that you might have a solution for
- What will excite them about your product or service
Once you’ve considered the above, it’s time to get going and write your press release. It must be something that captivates the reader and leaves a long-lasting impression on them. You must give them a burning desire to purchase your product or service. Remember, they came to your site looking for a solution; you have that solution so give it to them.
Tips to get going
Create an outline for your press release and in doing this consider the following:
- Gather all the information that you can
- Create a list of all potential questions that your target audience needs answers to
- Create a list of all the answers to these questions
- Begin writing the press release using short sentences
- Choose words that fit your target audience
- If you’re aim is to reach several target audiences, then you need to write several different press releases
Key Points when writing Press Release
- Do not use hyped up words or phrases such as ‘major breakthrough’, ‘miracle remedy’ etc. Your press release needs to sound like news not an advertisement.
- Always write in the 3rd person – the only time you should use ‘I’, ‘we’ etc is in a quote
- Keep it short; a press release should be no longer than 1 page
- The main body of the story should only include a very brief mention of your product or service
- Use short sentences and double spacing for easy reading

Remainder of body text – This is the section where you will expand on the opening
paragraph with further details. In this section you need to sell your product and tell why the consumer should buy it, but without too much hype. Remember, this is a news story about your business, website, and/or product – not an advertisement. Use quotes, affiliate links, and testimonials in this section.
Remainder of body text – Should include any relevant information to your products or services. Include benefits, why your product or service is unique, etc.
Restate Contact information after your last paragraph
Summarize product or service specifications one last time
Company History (try to do this in one short paragraph)
You will see there is a lot of information required to go into your press release so careful consideration should always be given before you go to publish. Consider all the tips above and it will simplify the process no end.
