How To Find the Right Domain For Your Business

A Domain Name is a name given to your website that gives you an identity on the web and is the name by which your site will be identified.   Every website has its own domain name, there will never be 2 with the same name unlike an offline business or franchise where the brand name IS the business.

For example, compare a Domain Name to an offline Franchise Name such as McDonalds;  if this was an online business and you were buying into McDonalds you would look for a Domain Name, preferably with the McDonalds brand but the Top Level Domain i.e. www.McDonalds.com will not be available as it will be used by the overall business owner.  So, what you would do in effect is to look for perhaps McDonaldsburgers.com or McDonaldsRealBeef.com.

15 points to consider when compiling a Press Release

Before you start to write a press release there are a number of factors you need to consider.  What I’m going to teach you with this article is how to get started using press releases that will publicise your online business and/or your affiliate products to maximise profitability.

A number of points that need to be considered before even starting to put together your press release are:

  • Do not be intimidated, they are very easy to write and will often give you amazing results.
  • Who will want to visit your site and what are they looking for when they do? – try and put yourself in their shoes
  • Think about their problem that you might have a solution for
  • What will excite them about your product or service

Once you’ve considered the above, it’s time to get going and write your press release.  It must be something that captivates the reader and leaves a long-lasting impression on them.  You must give them a burning desire to purchase your product or service.  Remember, they came to your site looking for a solution; you have that solution so give it to them.

Tips to get going

Create an outline for your press release and in doing this consider the following:

  • Gather all the information that you can
  • Create a list of all potential questions that your target audience needs answers to
  • Create a list of all the answers to these questions
  • Begin writing the press release using short sentences
  • Choose words that fit your target audience
  • If you’re aim is to reach several target audiences, then you need to write several different press releases

Key Points when writing Press Release

  • Do not use hyped up words or phrases such as ‘major breakthrough’, ‘miracle remedy’ etc.  Your press release needs to sound like news not an advertisement.
  • Always write in the 3rd person – the only time you should use ‘I’, ‘we’ etc is in a quote
  • Keep it short; a press release should be no longer than 1 page
  • The main body of the story should only include a very brief mention of your product or service
  • Use short sentences and double spacing for easy reading

Company History (try to do this in one short paragraph)

You will see there is a lot of information required to go into your press release so careful consideration should always be given before you go to publish.  Consider all the tips above and it will simplify the process no end.

Top search engine optimisation strategies for Press Release explained

What not to do

  • Never use all upper case letters.  This looks unprofessional and will cause it to be rejected by most distribution companies
  • Consider your grammar and style as these will quickly destroy the credibility you are trying to create.  Always ask someone to proof read before you submit.  You can pay for the services of a professional to critique through sites such as Elance.
  • Do not embed HTML or any other mark up language within your press release.  As it will be distributed over hundreds and sometimes thousands of networks, such formatting can negatively impact the readability of your content.

What to do

  • Open up with telling the audience why they should read it and what’s in it for them
  • Ensure the first 10 words of your release are as effective as they are the most important
  • Avoid overuse of adjectives and fancy language – remember KISS, keep it stupidly simple
  • Stick to the facts – avoid exaggerations and add-ons, keep to the point
  • Provide as much contact information as possible
  • Give examples of how your service or products meets your audience’s needs or desires
  • Be careful of wording – use only enough to get your point over but make each word count
  • Do not use jargon, speak plainly and use ordinary language that everyone understands
  • Press releases are about credibility and value – avoid hype and exclamation marks

Press Release optimisation

  • Press releases produce better results if there is a combination of creative writing coupled with targeted keywords
  • Integrate targeted keywords into your title, headline, sub-heading and the first two paragraphs.  Your title should reflect the strongest keywords
  • Be careful of overuse of keywords, the emphasis of the search engines are normally on the title and first few paragraphs so focus them there
  • Whilst tempted to put your company or product name in the title, this is unlikely to bring you the exposure you want in the eyes of a search engine.  You will want to use highly targeted search phrases that will be used by your potential customers
  • Include targeted links within the content
  • Many press release distribution services now offer the option of purchasing a hyperlink where you simply convert a keyword phrase within the release into an active hyperlink.  This will increase search engine visibility for that keyword phrase and also drive additional traffic back to your website.
