A recent report revealed some interesting results and these results may surprise you:

CISCO has gone on record by saying that by 2013, video will be 90% of all consumer IP traffic and 64% of mobile.

The implications from this is that more and more people will gravitate towards You Tube to find information and it will not just be a source for people to seek out entertainment.  Increasingly they will go to this site to find information on local plumbers, Real Estate information, help with a specific problem they are having etc.  Video Marketing is going to explode and if you’re not doing it, then you seriously need to be considering it.  It’s time now to start getting your videos to rank in the video search engines and not just in Google.

I am a subscriber on Chad Kimball’s list and this guy is just amazing, the value I receive from him and all for FREE should not be overlooked.  There’s not many people’s lists I subscribe to as most of them are full of hot air, but this guy brings value time after time after time.

It is his latest video that alerted me to this rapidly increasing phenomenon that is You Tube Video Marketing.

What is the purpose of writing articles?

The purpose of writing articles is first and foremost to educate people, to give something of value to the reader, to pass your knowledge or expertise of a particular subject onto others.

Within the internet marketing industry and in fact many other industries, it can be a lucrative way of driving traffic to your website and the other real beauty is it is FREE.  What I love about Ezine Articles is that writing just one article can mean a Google position on many different pages within your niche.  The added bonus is that once you have had your article published, it is out there sending traffic to you for many, many years to come.

Before writing – what is the purpose of your specific article?

Any good article author will tell you that you should always sit down before you write any article and determine what the purpose of that particular article is.  For example, if your intention is to rate in the Search Engines then you will need to use long tail keywords so your article will appear when people type that keyword into the Search Engine.

If you are writing an article to submit to a blog post or a niche related forum where your target  market hangs out, then you don’t even need to bother too much about keywords at all.  Your purpose on this occasion is not to appear on the Search Engine Results page but to offer something of value to your hungry audience.

Search Engine Ratings or Value to the Reader?

I have never written any article yet that has started with me aiming solely to get ratings in the search engines.  Instead what I have tried to do is to answer the questions that I sought answers to when I first came into internet marketing.  If during my many visits to the forums that are out there, I see a reoccurring question then I will do some research if necessary and attempt to write an article on that also.  Again this is about providing value rather than ratings.

Now this doesn’t mean that I totally ignore the Search Engines but just that I do not dwell on it so much.  The day I made the decision to no longer focus on keywords, keywords, and more keywords was the day I felt a huge burden lift from me.

There is also a lot of software out there that promises to take the ‘arduous’ task of writing articles away from you.  Some claim that you only need write one article and their software will spin it to make several more articles out of that one.

My question to you then is “what is your purpose of writing articles?”  “What are you attempting to achieve?”  I ask this because in my opinion, the fact that you have opted for an easy way out suggests that this is all about ‘you’ and ‘taking’ rather than ‘giving’ value to your readers first and foremost.

Brick wall ahead – non techie about to come crashing through!

I’ve gained so much technical knowledge these last 6 months or so now that I think I get a wee bit carried away with myself and sometimes I think I’m a lot better than I really am.  I try and be too adventurous and it always comes back to bite me on the proverbial.

What I’ve been trying to do for the last xx hours is something that probably sounds really simple to some people and it is to do with setting up accounts.  It was in place, or so I thought until I went to move some accounts around and realised I hadn’t quite got it right with one of them in the first place.  In the end I got so frustrated with trying to backtrack etc, I just closed the account and opened a new one.

Do you ever find yourself doing that, taking the long way round things when a really simple solution is staring you straight in the face?  Pragmatism is a large part of my personality and most pragmatists don’t take time to read instructions, they just plough straight in.  Well that is me over and over, and I never learn.  It doesn’t always result in errors but when it does, I would give anything to be the opposite type of personality and be a reflector.  Someone who doesn’t make decisions quickly but takes lots and lots of time to evaluate, to weigh up all the pros and cons and then takes things one baby step at a time.

So, that’s where I’m at right now.

On the positive side, I attended a fantastic webinar with our marketing group tonight and learned of really exciting things happening.  I’m always amazed at how we never sit still, there’s always some other high money making venture waiting to be thrust into our laps.

Tonight was extra exciting though – not only is there some really HOT STUFF coming our way but we are putting on a timebound promotion where people can try before they buy with all our marketing and coaching club.  All this for just $1 - I just can’t see how it is possible but if that’s what the boss says, that’s what we can offer.  I just wish I had this opportunity to access the best training materials and make lots of money for just $1 – I would have been laughing all the way to the bank.

How to generate FREE site traffic using Yahoo Answers

If you were aware that Yahoo Answers has a user base of more than 21 million unique users in the US alone and over 90 million worldwide, would you not be intrigued to find out what it is all about?  If you also knew that it is one of the most effective and simplest methods of increasing your website traffic for free, would you not want to be a part of it?

One of the easiest ways to drive free traffic to your site is through Yahoo Answers and for some reason; it is one of the most overlooked methods in the strategies of many Internet Marketers.

Step 1

You will need to sign up at http://answers.yahoo.com although if you already have a current Yahoo messenger account, you will be able to create an account using that ID.  The author has no monetary link to this site; the link is added to increase value within this article.

Step 2

Complete your Profile.  Once logged in you can create or edit your profile and take the time to fill out as much information as you would like others to see then save this information.  Yahoo Answer members can contact you via messenger if you have this option enabled or through email.  You  have the choice however, of not allowing any private contact other than your responses to the questions you answer.

You will want to brand yourself so it is suggested that you upload a photograph and it’s an effective way to make your profile more memorable as this picture will appear alongside your answers.

Step 3

Take time to look over the site, looking at the types of questions asked.  On the left hand side of the main page you will see a list of categories and it is within these that questions are posted according to their subject matter.  To help increase the free traffic to your site, you will only choose those categories that relate to your niche industry.  Some of the categories listed (in alphabetical order) are:

Arts & Humanities, Beauty & Style, Business & Finance, Cars & Transportation, Computers & Internet, Consumer Electronics, Dining Out, Education & Reference

How to Promote Your Product

Before you start answering questions you should have a good idea as to what you plan on promoting.  You should never go into Yahoo Answers with the sole aim of promoting your product.  Instead focus on adding value, people have posted questions on there because they are looking for solutions.  If your product happens to be a possible solution for them, that is when you post your link.  Your link goes in the Source box at the end of your answer and not within the main body of your response.

This is how you get free traffic to your site; it is a simple but effective way to promote your websites and direct people to find out more about the topic of their question.

Step 4

It is important that you answer questions as thoroughly as you can and at all costs avoid spamming your websites within answers when there is no relevance for this.  If you need to do some research to help someone out, then this is what you should do.  It is all about adding value, building a credible presence and aiming for your answer to be voted a ‘Top Answer’.  This is how Yahoo Answers works; the person who posted the question will choose what they consider to be the Top Answer and the responder then earns a further 10 points.  It is worthwhile spending some time in the early stages to look over some resolved questions (those that have top answers voted) and see the different ways that people answer the questions to earn this prestigious position.

Step 5

No Spamming.  If you do this, you run the chance of not receiving any votes and your answer may be removed completely.  You want to build up a credible presence by giving lots of content in your answers and whilst aiming to promote your site, focus first and foremost on giving good content.

How to generate lots of targeted traffic through understanding keywords and keyword research

The power of keywords is not the only thing that will generate lots of traffic for you but it is one of the most powerful methods.  Before you can start generating lots of traffic, you have to understand the raw nature of keywords because they are practically at the root of any online business.

keywords2What are keywords?

When you go to Google and type in what it is you’re looking for in the search engine, all of the results that you see on the top right hand side of the search engine are placements that people have paid money to be placed there.  When you can identify those keywords that have a lot of exposure you will start delivering traffic easily from the search engines and make more money online.

2 types of keywords

There are 2 main types of keywords, the short-tail and guess what, the long-tail.  Short-tail keywords are ones that are usually one word and are very broad ranging.  Long-tail keywords are usually multiple words and are very specific.  For example, ‘dog barking’ is an example of a short-tail keyword whereas ‘how to stop my Jack Russell barking’ is a more specific search and would be known as a long-tail keyword.

Most internet marketers do not take the time to research and actually put together a list of long-tail keywords to promote their product or service.  This is just like leaving money on the table because although they do take time to analyse, they will generate you more highly targeted and qualified customers than short-tail keywords will ever do.  That is not to say short-tail keywords don’t work, they absolutely do but wouldn’t it be great if all visitors to your site found the exact service or product they were looking for.

Keyword combinations – putting them together

There are billions of things that people search for every day on the internet.  Some of the phrases used you may think would be confusing to type and include, but in reality people are searching for them.  The more specific your keyword phrase is that you are trying to target; the higher it will convert because it is exactly what people are searching for.

Short-tail keywords are so general and although they can generate you plenty of volume, you will waste your money because the people visiting are nowhere near as targeted.

All you have to do is to start with a few general short-tail keywords and simply take those keywords and begin adding additional words to the end.  For example, let’s imagine you have a dog product website where you sell various canine related items.   It’s obvious your primary keyword would be dog products.  Now let’s consider what type of customers you plan on having come to your website that would be considered your ‘Dream Customers.’

If we consider some words that dog product buyers would be typing into the search engines i.e. dog crates, dog food, dog toys, dog beds, dog leads, dog training, pet supplies, pet insurance, dog shampoo, dog deodorant etc.  Considering all these you can see now how easy it would be to put together keyword combinations that would drive people to your website who are ready to buy right now.

You may be thinking at this point that it sounds like a lot of work.  In all honesty, it is, but there is a free tool on the internet that you can use to help you brainstorm and compile very precise keyword combination lists.  This tool is called Google AdWords and if you don’t have a website already, Google will help you create one for FREE.  You simply create your ad and use the tool on the site to help you build your keyword combination.

2 simple ways of getting free traffic

Are you just starting out in internet marketing and have a limited or no marketing budget?  If so, this article is written just for you.  There are numerous methods of free marketing out there but I have chosen 2 that I have, and continue to use to bring me free traffic.  So what are they?

Drop cards

These are just small business cards, well in so much they’re business card size but along the top they have a heading (your business opportunity) and underneath this a URL.  Some examples of headings could be ‘tired of trading time for money?’ or ‘this proven business could bring you an extra $10,000 each month’ or ‘Do you want to work from home?’

Drop Flyers

Exact same concept as the cards but written on an A5 size paper.  This allows you further opportunity to expand on the headings you used in the drop cards and use further questions similar to you have on your card but a lot more of them.  You could also include what is termed ‘a call to action’ i.e. visit this website to download FREE marketing coaching videos or refer to an eBook you may have purchased and want to give to your prospects (visitors).

Where to promote

The list is endless as to where you could promote your cards or flyers.  Some places that readily spring to mind are:

  • The Mall                               Coffee Shops                                     Seminars
  • Health Clubs                       Salons                                                 Windshields
  • Colleges                               Neighbourhood                               Gas Stations
  • Bowling                               Dance classes                                    Churches

These 2 methods go totally against all the other free advertising methods that others talk about online.  This is back to the grass roots of marketing.  Before the internet came out, this was how people advertised; there wasn’t the luxury of social networking sites, internet forums, ezines you could submit articles to.   At work you could drop them around different work areas, lunch rooms or anywhere you think people may venture into and could by chance stumble across your drop card or flyer.

For example, if you were putting a drop flyer in your local Mall, you may want to have a heading like ‘do you want to make some more money so you can buy some more clothes?’ or something along those lines.  Try and make your flyer relevant to where you’re promoting.

Promoting on windshields is an effective method I used.  I paid some young adults $10 each and they placed flyers on every windshield in the parking lot of a number of large shopping complexes.  As a disclaimer here, I agreed with their parents beforehand and I transported them around.

Bandit signs are another good way of promotion.  This is the signs you often see when sitting at a stop light and there is a sign stuck in the ground somewhere often displaying some form of political message.  You could put up one of those with your website and a call to action.   You can get all sorts of signs like these made for free or for a very low fee.  If you go onto Google and type in vista print there are a number of sites that will come up promoting many free advertising banners etc.

Writing articles – why should this be a strategy adopted by internet marketers?

When I first started in internet marketing within my home business, I was informed by my mentor over and over that ‘content is king’ and that article marketing is one of the main strategies you must adopt.  You must aim to submit 2-3 articles per week I was told.

I just couldn’t really work this out and despite her best efforts to educate me about lead generation, back links etc; it might just as well have been someone speaking a foreign language for the little I understood.  In fact, the online business world has its own unique language and believe me it took some learning, and still does!

I did as instructed and duly started to submit articles, reading up as much as I could and it was only when I started to see results, i.e. people visiting my site after reading my articles that it started to make some sense.

Why is it such an effective strategy?

The main 2 article submission sites that I would suggest are Ezinearticle.com and Go Articles.com.

All those involved in internet marketing know the money is in the list; but you have to generate that traffic first before you can make any money.  Article marketing is a great free way of doing that.  Once you article has been published, you sort of forget about it but it is out there and highly visible for anyone to see who happens to either search on the relevant keywords contained within it, or just stumbles across it by chance.  It can continue to generate traffic for you ad infinitum.

By submitting your articles to these sites you can get traffic in 3 ways:

  1. Simply by your article being published by one or both of these article submission sites.
  2. Your article, or parts of it being picked up by and Ezine publisher and you will see their link at the top right of the Ezine Articles homepage.  A publisher is someone who owns a website and/or they own a newsletter and they may want to publish your article within their site or publication.  Whatever they choose to do with your article, it’s going to have your signature file at the bottom.  At the end of every single article you write is your signature file.  Anyone using your article has to include your signature block for compliance purposes.
  3. Your article gets indexed in the search engines.  So how do you do this?  Well it basically all comes down to keyword research.  One of the main ways you target marketing is by targeting keywords.  The entire search engines are based on keywords.  It’s really important that you find and select the right keywords to use in your marketing.  Some of the things that can help are software tools.  My favourite free keyword software site is nichebotclassic.com and it is so simple to use.  You just type in the keyword(s) you plan on using and it will bring up the number of daily searches on that keyword from the 3 main search engines.

Summary

Make sure your articles are easy to read, give value on your subject so readers are intrigued and want to find out more about your business so click on your signature file.  You don’t have to write a masterpiece, you just want to generate enough interest that they click on your link at the bottom.

Sit down and write 5 articles at a time, keep them in the same category; your chances then increase of them all appearing in the lists your will see at the bottom of the Ezine pages also.  What you’re doing here is increasing the traffic back to your site.  If your content is good, this will increase the likelihood of a publisher picking up on it so that’s 2 main strategies to adopt in article marketing.

Long term leverage

The aim for long term leverage is to get your articles ranked in the search engines.  This means that long after you’ve forgotten what you’ve written, those articles are up there and driving traffic to your site.
